In training: the 5:2 diet

Athletes prepare long and hard in advance of any big sporting event. Apparently. I’ve been doing the same – I’ve been getting ready for my trip to France tomorrow… by dieting.

If I were a sportsman, I expect I would have spent hours a day in training and eating foods that would release energy when I needed it. Instead, I’ve spent my days avoiding the snack machine at work.

I’ve given the woman from the cafeteria who brings round a trolley of bacon sandwiches every morning a wide berth too.

I’ve been doing the 5:2 diet: five days of normal eating and two days where I am allowed just 600 calories. I can’t say it’s fun but I’ve got used to it now – and I’ve lost six kilos in weight.

I wonder how much of that I’ll put back on this weekend…
